IMF forecasts strong growth in Central America and the DR in 2024

Nigel Chalk said that the region will record an average growth of 3.9 % this year and faces the challenges of continuing to make progress in productivity and debt reduction.

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) forecasts that Central America and the Dominican Republic will experience robust economic growth during 2024, above the Latin American average, and urged the region on Tuesday to work on initiatives to increase productivity.

The deputy director of the Western Hemisphere Department of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), Nigel Chalk, said at a press conference following the XVIII Regional Conference on Central America, Panama and the Dominican Republic, that the region will register an average growth of 3.9% in 2024 and pointed out as challenges to continue advancing in productivity and debt reduction.

The forum was attended by presidents of central banks and finance ministers of Central American countries and the Dominican Republic, as well as senior IMF officials to analyze the region’s economic outlook and challenges.
