The Minister of Economy, Planning and Development, Pável Isa Contreras, affirmed that the fundamental objective of the public policy of the present government is to improve the quality of life of the people, and for that reason it promotes more and better jobs and, likewise, more and better public services.
“In a way, this is like a motto of freedom”, said Isa Contreras, while being interviewed in a television program.
He also emphasized that more and better jobs together with more and better public services are the two ways in which economic growth is transformed into quality of life for the people “and that is where we are making an enormous effort”.
He indicated that we are close to “achieving a single-digit unemployment rate”, due to the fact that a significant number of jobs have been created during the current administration.
Quality of life
The economist and researcher pointed out that the quality of life continues to be a structural issue that must continue to be addressed.
In this regard, he pointed out that the Ministry of Economy is very committed to improve the quality of public policy and to accelerate the creation of higher quality jobs for the population.
He highlighted the evaluation of all public investment projects by the Ministry of Economy so that they are of benefit to society.
He highlighted that work is being done in public infrastructure, road safety, water, sanitation and irrigation, as well as education, among other areas.
He highlighted that between 2021 and 2023 the investment in water in the whole sense increased by 82 % compared to the average investment 2016-2019.
He indicated that the increase in coverage of drinking water and sanitation services has been very significant, where there was a lag in public investment of decades at all levels on the issue of water, in which an important effort is being made.
“There is a set of areas in which we are working and committed to the issue of the quality of education, including the issue of technical education,” said Isa Contreras.
He stated that the fundamental piece of quality jobs is about training and empowering people.
Commitment of the Ministry of Economy
The Minister of Economy emphasized that education is a fundamental bet of the Government and that is why the number of centers of the Technical Professional Training Institute (Infotep) has been increased. “That is the bet we are making, putting education where the workforce demand is,” he said.
Isa Contreras considered that the quality of jobs depends on the skills people have. He said that the Ministry of Economy is very committed with Infotep and with the Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Technology to strengthen technical education programs.
He also pointed out the commitment to territorial planning.
The Minister reiterated the normalization of the macroeconomy with high economic growth and low inflation. In this sense, he concluded that there is a good scenario for economic growth to translate into quality of life.
