Minister of Foreign Affairs visits DP World in Dominican Republic

Executives of the logistics solutions provider DP World received the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Roberto Álvarez, who had the opportunity to learn about the organization’s logistics ecosystem, the business units that comprise it, as well as the growth plan that the company is executing in the country.

Upon his arrival, the Minister was received by Morten Johansen, CEO of DP World in the Dominican Republic and several members of his management team. Alvarez was accompanied by Hugo Rivera, Vice Minister of Economic Affairs and International Cooperation, as well as other members of MIREX.

During the tour, Johansen shared with the representative of this government entity DP World’s growth plan in the country and its vision of turning the Dominican Republic into the most important logistics HUB in the Americas region. Within this strategy, which is aligned with the purpose of the Dominican State, are several projects that the company has executed and are in process, such as the expansion of the main dock, the strengthening of its port infrastructure, as well as the provision of 3,000,000 square meters of land for the development of free zones for manufacturing.

The executive also reaffirmed the company’s commitment to increase the country’s competitiveness and connectivity, collaborating in projects that seek to achieve this same objective. One of them is the participation of the Dominican Republic in “Expo 2020 Dubai”, which will be possible thanks to the signing of a collaboration agreement between the company and MIREX. Thanks to this alliance, it will be possible to show the advantages that the nation possesses in economic and investment matters, which will have an impact on the increase of foreign investment and economic development.

“Our vision is to increase the country’s competitiveness and connectivity, facilitating a more efficient trade that will, in turn, create a better future for all the actors that make up the supply chain, the communities and the nation. To achieve this, and as strategic allies of the Dominican Government, we seek to promote the country to multinational companies as a value proposition. With the signing of this agreement, new investments will be generated and strategic alliances will be created that will have a direct impact on the economic development of the country,” said the executive.
