Spanish hotel groups for DR as a tourist destination

Major Spanish hotel groups are promoting their presence in the Dominican Republic, one of the tourism references in the Caribbean and the American continent. Last year they received more than seven million tourists, data that, according to the Ministry of Tourism, place 2022 as “the best year in the history of Dominican tourism”.

In this line of work, the top executives of Spanish companies are confident that Alfredo Fernández Agras, president of NH; Gabriel Escarrer Juliá, president of Meliá; Eustasio López, president of Lopesan; and Abel Matutes Prat, president of Palladium, are betting on the area.

Last week the Minister of Tourism of the Dominican Republic, David Collado, assured that his objective “was to continue to be the reference in tourism for the continent; that is why we will continue to innovate and we will exhaust an agenda of more than 60 meetings where we will close agreements with airlines, new hotels and tourism investments, as well as tour operators, so that we can continue to promote the arrival of tourists to our country”.

The Dominican Republic’s pavilion at Fitur was attended by King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia. Also in attendance were the president of the Dominican Popular Bank, Cristopher Paniagua; the administrator of the Banco de Reservas, Samuel Pereyra; the president of the Dominican Association of Hotels and Tourism, David Llibre, as well as the Dominican ambassador to Spain, Juan Bolívar Díaz. In addition, prominent businessmen linked to the country’s tourism sector and other Dominican authorities were present at the event.Casa de Juventud

Both the president of Banco Popular, Cristopher Paniagua, and the administrator of Banco de Reservas, Samuel Pereyra, emphasized the importance of tourism for the country and its economy, and highlighted the efforts of all the sectors involved to achieve the growing numbers of foreign visitors.

Last week agreements were signed with Iberia and TUI, the travel agency of El Corte Inglés, and meetings were held with tour operators World 2 Fly and World 2 Meet, as well as with the online travel platform E dreams.

Among those present at the opening of the stand were Gabriel Escarrer, from Grupo Meliá; Encarna Piñero, from Inverhotel; Frank Rainieri and Haydée Kuret de Rainieri, from Grupo Punta Cana; Adriana Cisneros, from Grupo Cisneros, as well as Juan Vicini, Héctor José Rizek, Carlos José Martí, among others.

The Dominican Minister of Tourism, David Collado, highlighted that “we are an open country, of good people, who welcome tourists with a smile” and with tourist attractions such as the Colonial City and the paradisiacal Dominican beaches (among the best in the world), in addition to the international art of Iván Tovar and the famous merengue, declared in 2016 by Unesco as Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
