The First National Photojournalism Salon of the Dominican Republic will be inaugurated next Thursday, September 30, with a selection of the best press photographs of the years 2020 and 2021.
The event will take place at the monument to Fray Antonio de Montesino in the capital, where the awards ceremony will be held.
The exhibition contains the best Press photographs of the year 2020-2021, organized by the Association of Photojournalists of the Dominican Republic, which will also have training activities, with the purpose of highlighting the value of photojournalists and improving their skills.
An independent jury of the highest international level, made up of Spanish photojournalist Ramón Espinosa, winner of the World Press Photo 2020; renowned Colombian photographer Eliana Aponte, who has been a juror for the WPP and other important international awards; Puerto Rican photojournalist Ricardo Arduengo, correspondent for the most important international media for the Caribbean, and Orlando Barría, photojournalist for the EFE Agency in the country, were in charge of selecting the best images sent by the participants in the following categories: Feature, Press, Portrait, Sports, Daily Life, Nature and Environment and International, in addition to awarding the Photo of the Year.
This first edition of the contest received great support with close to 500 images captured by photographers from local and independent media, as well as foreign photographers residing in the Dominican Republic.
Adriano Rosario, president of the Association of Photojournalists of the Dominican Republic, “thanked both the jury and the photojournalists who sent their work to participate in the Award, the media and the companies and institutions that have given their support. And especially to the photojournalist Erika Santelices, coordinator of the First National Photojournalism Salon, who has given her all to make this project a reality, which is one of the fundamental axes in the Association’s programmatic agenda”.
The activity is sponsored by the Administrative Ministry of the Presidency, Banco BHD-León, the Cabinet of Social Policies of the Presidency, the Mayor’s Office of the National District, the Senate of the Republic, Grupo Rica and Fotosistema.
