Jusef Sanchez becomes the first man to win a Masterchef in the country
The prominent Dominican Lebanese fashion designer Jusef Sánchez, was the winner of the second edition of Masterchef Celebrity Dominican Republic, becoming the first man to win the title in the country. The announcement was made this Sunday, April 25, during the grand finale of the program, which was broadcast from 8:00 pm on Telesistema 11.
Excited and full of expectations, Jusef embraced this new achievement after a heated and intense last challenge for first place against communicators Ibelka Ulerio and Yubelkis Peralta.
His creative proposal for a three-course menu where he was able to bet on his origins was what gave him the victory. The starter, a Hummus with beef topping in spices and pine nuts, together with a Baba Ganoush; the main course was a Mediterranean rice with spices, nuts and a chicken in a reduction of malagueta, butter and lemon; for the end a “knefe”, a Lebanese dessert.
Jusef Sánchez confesses that, at the beginning of the season, he was one of the least popular contestants because he was a figure outside of entertainment, but as the episodes went by and he demonstrated his performance in the kitchen, he gained support and positioned himself in the hearts of the public.
His evolution during the competition also led him to hold the record for the most “Best Dishes” won in the history of Masterchef DR, obtaining 7 winning dishes out of the 10 he had to present.
This season the Celebrities were 11 in competition: Gary Acosta, Laribel, La Pitonisa, El Naguero, Lizbeth Santos, Yubelkis Peralta, Phillip Rodríguez, Haidy Cruz, Anderson Mercedes, La Shanty, and Jusef Sánchez.
The foundation that Sanchez supported throughout the season is the “Fundación Amigos Contra El Cáncer Infantil” (FACCI), which will receive an important economic bonus from the franchise in addition to other benefits. The renowned designer has been working hand in hand with this foundation for eight years, so achieving this and helping so many children in need is the greatest reward for Jusef.
