Air Europa has inaugurated the long awaited Madrid-Santiago de los Caballeros link, with two weekly frequencies, in addition to the five it offers to Punta Cana and one daily to Santo Domingo.
After the landing of the first Air Europa flight at the Cibao International Airport, where it was received by a delegation headed by the president, Luis Abinader, and different regional and local authorities, Juan José Hidalgo, president of Globalia, expressed his conviction that the two frequencies with which this new route has started will be increased in the future.
“I believe that this beginning of two frequencies will go far because there is so much enthusiasm and so much desire for this area to grow and communicate and, with this new route, not only with Madrid, but with the entire network of European destinations of the company,” he said.
“All the routes I have opened in my life have started with one or two weekly frequencies and then have been growing,” said Hidalgo, who is confident that the new route to Santiago de los Caballeros can one day become like Punta Cana or Santo Domingo.
The businessman expressed his satisfaction for having fulfilled the promise made to make the necessary investment to continue developing the Dominican Republic.
For his part, Félix García, president of the Board of Directors of Cibao International Airport, said that “the opening of this route is another example of our commitment to the constant growth and modernization of our facilities and services.”
“Each new destination we add to our flight network is a step forward in our goal of positioning Santiago as an important hub for international air connections,” he said.
García added that “Madrid, being one of the most important cities in Europe, opens a valuable door to multiple opportunities in terms of commerce, culture and tourism. It is indisputable that this new route will bring with it a significant flow of visitors, investors and tourists that will undoubtedly contribute to economic dynamism.”
