Mexicana Airlines flight between Tulum and Punta Cana is underway

The mayor of Punta Cana, Ramón Antonio Ramírez “Manolito”, met with officials of the Directorate General of Tourism and Economy of Tulum and later with airport authorities, in order to land flights through the new Tulum International Airport to the eastern DR.

During the visit, the Dominican delegation visualized the digital tourism marketing strategies implemented by the administration of Diego Castañon Trejo, municipal president of Tulum, learned about the operation of the Center for Tourism Information and Business Attention (CITAEM) and toured the facilities of the Felipe Carrillo Puerto International Airport, since the plans are that by 2025 Mexicana Airlines will be able to fly from Tulum to Punta Cana.

Ramírez stated that the aim is to reaffirm an economic dynamism that will encourage travelers to get to know both destinations and even encourage them to repeat the experience, according to the international press.

He indicated that the idea is to see the conditions of the local airport and to link common airlines that can see the possibility of opening routes, because the market is there and the conditions exist to make it happen.

“I understand that yes, we can achieve it, we came today (Tuesday) to visit the airport, see the conditions and then put (in contact) both the management of the Punta Cana airport and the management of the Tulum airport and that both airports can say if it can be done and we motivate the airlines that we already have relations with them so that they can make direct trade, not only for passengers but also for transport and free trade zone, to see how to generate dynamism because many developers and producers of Tulum can sell the product to the European market and at the same time to the Dominican market”, he said.

He maintained that they are also following up on a twinning agreement made previously and are looking to see how to generate a synergy where they can do business and sell multi-destinations.

“The idea is to see how we can attract the European tourist especially, who normally goes on vacation for 14 days and after the first week already feels that he is doing the same thing. So we are seeing how we can generate a trade where you can spend a week in Punta Cana and a week in Tulum,” said the mayor of Punta Cana.

Meanwhile, José Manuel Muñoz, president of the Punta Cana Tour Operators and director of the Jumbo Tours Group in the DR, indicated that “this visit will allow us to continue enriching the tourist experience for travelers and attracting new investments in the Caribbean islands and peninsulars”.

The visit of the Dominican delegation was on the occasion of the first anniversary of the twinning between the two tourist areas.
