Leandro Díaz wins National Award for Dominican Gastronomy

The National Association of Gastronomy and Hospitality (AGH) presented this Sunday, July 18, the “National Awards for Dominican Gastronomy”, the highest recognition of the gastronomic and hospitality sector of the Dominican Republic, during a ceremony that was broadcast on Channel 4, where the renowned Dominican chef Leandro Díaz won the public award, one of the highest awards of the night. This category rewards the work of individuals or institutions that have stood out for their trajectory and contributions to the country’s gastronomy and/or food and beverage industry.

Leandro, who has had an arduous journey of more than 25 years with his proposal dedicated to the growth, evolution and projection of Dominican cuisine, was very excited to receive this award, which he dedicated to his “two families” as he calls his children and his team at “Casa Gastronómica”.

The award was presented to him by Juan Bolivar Troncoso, director of Sabores Dominicanos; Milagros Germán, Director of Communications of the Presidency; Engelbert Landolfi, Advisor to the Presidency on artistic matters and Gabriella Reginato, outstanding Dominican chef.

“To thank God for everything he puts in our path, and for allowing us to enjoy these beautiful moments that come just at the best times. I thank each person who honored me with their vote, for believing in me and for the affection, and the distinction they gave me by being nominated along with this group of very talented chefs, that multiplies this recognition. I do this for the love I have for the Dominican cuisine and my country… although there are many sacrifices, there are plenty of reasons to keep going,” said Leandro.

Leandro has always stood out for being one of the Dominican chefs with the greatest charisma and interaction with the public, adding to this his constant dedication to the rescue of our flavors, betting on their evolution while always respecting the essence of our cuisine.

More about Leandro:
He currently leads his culinary proposal in his restaurant “Casa Gastronómica”. He has had the opportunity to represent our country on several occasions as it was in the UNESCO Paris France in the Dominican Gastronomic Week of 2009 promoting our cuisine even at that time low profile but taking the first steps to enjoy what we are achieving today.

Numerously recognized by the sector highlighting the Recognition made by the Ministry of Culture in the framework of the International Book Fair 2017 where he was dedicated the Cooking Pavilion for his dedication and dedication to the development of Dominican Gastronomy and for enriching the Gastronomic Bibliography of our country with his book “Cocinando sin ITBIS”.

Outstanding culinary academic who for years taught cooking classes in major universities such as APEC his home, where he completed his university studies in the career of Marketing in addition to his multiple certifications such as nutrition, restaurant management, culinary arts, gastronomic management, among others, making him an expert cook and gastronomic advisor.

Producer and director of magazines, radio programs and after more than 15 years doing cooking on television and performing as a successful restaurateur with his different gastronomic proposals such as Dulzuras, Comida Criolla, Sixteen Cuts, Marine Lounge, Cookers & Friends Culinary Club, Rock-n-Burger, Hamburguesería, El Catador Vinos (tapas kitchen), Filomena Restaurante- Cortes y Cocina Mediterránea, Caribbean Bites-Tapas Dominicanas, Burra-Hamburguesería, among others, was selected JUDGE of MasterChef República Dominicana, becoming the most popular Chef, followed and appreciated by the Dominicans.
