The Minister of Health, Víctor Atallah, highlighted the importance of generating changes in the lifestyle of the collaborators, for which he seeks to turn the MSP into a “model of health and wellbeing at work”, after considering that it is the environment where people spend most of their time, which has an impact on their physical and mental health.
The Ministry of Health, through the Directorate of Support for Health Promotion and Education (Dapes), and the support of the Institute of Nutrition of Central America and Panama (Incap), unveiled the “Health Promotion at Work” campaign, which has been described as a “wellness revolution” by the Minister of Health.
“We live in a world of rapid work demands and daily pressures that can affect our health and wellbeing. At the MSP we fundamentally believe in promoting healthy lifestyle habits, which include physical activity, balanced nutrition, regular medical check-ups, and something vital, paying attention to mental health, which is why this pilot plan of the ‘occupational health campaign’ comes to revolutionize health in our institution,” said Atallah.
He expressed that, through this program, it will be possible to identify needs, such as exercise classes, stress management, good nutrition and recreational activities, thus taking a first step towards a healthier and more positive work environment.
But he also promised better conditions for the collaborating personnel and the creation of adequate spaces to “make the institution a model of health and wellbeing at work”.
Meanwhile, the Vice Minister of Collective Health, Dr. Eladio Pérez, welcomed the initiative, as it seeks to channel and develop a healthier life among the collaborators, to identify more common lifestyle habits that they put into practice to have a healthier and quality work environment and space.
“We are committed to this campaign that will bring education and help create safer spaces, encouraging a more active life, with the realization of physical activities, in order to achieve mental balance and better address each situation,” he said.
The Director of Health Promotion and Education Support (DAPES), Miguel Bruján, and Incap’s Technical Cooperation Coordinator, Ninette López, said that the initiative is a significant contribution and aims to undertake actions that generate positive changes in the physical, emotional, mental and lifestyle habits of each of its employees.
It also involves the Nutrition and Non-Communicable Diseases programs, directed by Dr. Patricia Grullón and Dr. Andelys De La Rosa, respectively.
The campaign “Health Promotion at Work” starts as a pilot plan, for which a group of collaborators was selected to receive the necessary guidance to improve their lifestyles, but it is intended to be implemented in all instances of the Ministry of Health, including other institutions.
