The presentations at this event emphasize the importance of continuous improvement in pediatric services.
The management of the Hospital Pediátrico Doctor Robert Reid Cabral held its first scientific conference focused on advances in children’s medicine. With the aim of promoting research and the exchange of knowledge among the hospital’s medical team and residents.
The event, organized in collaboration with the teaching department, was presided over by the hospital’s director, Dr. Mabel Jones, who emphasized that this day was part of the celebration of the hospital’s 68 years of commitment to children’s health.
Likewise, the doctor also highlighted the importance of continuous improvement in pediatric services and the commitment to excellence in children’s healthcare.
“This type of conference is important because all knowledge and continuing education are important, especially in this hospital, which is a teaching hospital,” Dr. Jones emphasized. “With these conferences we reinforce the knowledge of our physicians. It is important because there is always something new and the difficult clinicians, which are the ones that are usually presented in this type of activity, are of benefit to the medical class and who benefits better than the patient.”
The activity counted with the participation of outstanding specialists in the field of pediatrics, who shared their research, experiences and most recent advances. One example of this was the presentation “Viral diseases in children: What’s new?”, which was given by Dr. Daisy Blanco.
“We know that we have long ago the disappearance of measles, but we have seen that many times there have been cases in which we doubt whether it is there or not, in fact, we continue with the vaccination, which I think is something important, especially a vaccination schedule in children,” said the doctor.
Dr. Madelin Reynoso also addressed a highly relevant topic for clinical practice with the conference “Use and abuse of antibiotics: a direct route to antimicrobial resistance”.
Despite the positive impact that antibiotics have had over the years and the millions of lives they have helped to save, Dr. Reynoso pointed out that there is currently an increasing rate of resistance worldwide to these antimicrobials that are used for the most common infections.
“It is imperative for us to join forces in order to stop this resistance and to be able to offer patients prevention and continuous treatment with the aim of improving the clinical evolution of patients,” says Dr. Reynoso. “It is vital for us to be able to carry out this control is the implementation, execution and characterization of in-hospital antimicrobial optimization programs.”
The agenda of the scientific day
The two-day agenda of this event featured several conferences designed to enrich medical practices and strengthen the hospital’s ability to provide quality care to small patients.
For example, during the first day of the day there were also conferences such as:
- “Vision of the pediatric intensivist: approach to thrombotic microangiopathy,” by Dr. Gustavo Guerrero Tinoco.
- “Adolescence: a comprehensive view”, by Dr. Sandra Orsini.
- “Novelties in complementary feeding”, by Dr. Bianni de los Santos.
Likewise, the agenda for the second day of the conference will include presentations such as “Health with the soul: humanizing medical care”, given by Dr. Wandy Mejía and “Excellence in services” by Dr. Milagros Vásquez.
