In an act headed by the director of the National Health Service (SNS), Dr. Mario Lama, a new clinical laboratory was put into operation this Monday at the Dr. Nelson Astacio Specialized Outpatient Health Care Center (Outpatient Building) of the Dr. Luis Eduardo Aybar Health City.
The laboratory is staffed by professionals trained in clinical analysis and equipped with state-of-the-art technology; it has been designed to offer third-level care services, with a broad portfolio of specialized tests in hematology, clinical chemistry, serology, uroanalysis and other special tests, essential for the diagnosis and treatment of various medical conditions.
Yoany Arias, director of Laboratories and Imaging of the SNS, informed that the current week will be used to train the bioanalysts in the use of the equipment, while the service to the public will begin on Monday, June 17, 2024, from eight in the morning to six in the afternoon; later on, the laboratory will operate 24 hours a day.
Arias indicated that soon, in the new laboratory, histocompatibility tests will be performed, for the first time in the Public Network, which are necessary in patients who require transplants. “This will represent a saving for the users, who will no longer need to go to the private sector to receive this service, which is quite expensive”.
Meanwhile, Dr. José Joaquín Puello, president of Ciudad Sanitaria Dr. Luis Eduardo Aybar, pointed out that when these tests are available, this will save foreign currency for the country, since “each study sent to the United States has a very high cost and thousands of tests are sent every day”.
Also present at the event were: Edison Féliz Féliz, director of the Metropolitan Regional Health Service; Martín Ortiz, director Maternal Infant and Adolescent of the SNS; Onnes Tapia, director of the Dr. Nelson Astacio Specialized Center for Ambulatory Health Care and Natividad Carreras, in charge of the laboratory.
