The investigative journalist and television producer of this city, Esteban Rosario, will launch next Friday, May 27, the book “La USAID, el Poder Real en la República Dominicana” (USAID, the Real Power in the Dominican Republic).

The book will be presented at Casa de Arte starting at 7:00 pm with the participation of intellectuals, academics, journalists and the general public, where the political and economic trajectory of the United States Agency for International Development, known in the country as USAID, will be analyzed.

Rosario explained that the book recounts the participation of the U.S. Agency for International Development in the recent history of the Dominican Republic, from January 11, 1962, when it arrived in the country, until today.

“USAID is a key institution in the modernization of the State, the economy, the business sector and Dominican civil society,” he assured.

He revealed that USAID created in the State the Dominican Agrarian Institute (IAD), IDECOOP, ODC, FIDE fund, METALDOM, National Housing Bank and other institutions.

In the private sector, said Rosario, USAID founded the Banco Popular Dominicano, Instituto Superior de Agricultura (ISA), Financiera Nacional Dominicana, Asociación Cibao de Ahorros, Asociación Popular de Ahorros y Préstamos, Fundación Dominicana para el Desarrollo, PROFAMILIA, and others.

In the civil society it has financed more than 250 non-governmental organizations (NGOs) that carry out different tasks in the farthest corners of the country, according to the journalism professional.
