ICAO congratulates DR for success in U.S. aviation audit

The International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) congratulated the Dominican Republic for having successfully passed the IASA audit recently conducted by the United States Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).

Salvatore Sciacchitano, president of the ICAO Council, conveyed his congratulations through the organization’s secretary general, Juan Carlos Salazar, during a private meeting with the representation of the Dominican Republic at the Twelfth Meeting of Directors of North, Central America and the Caribbean (Nacc/DCA/12) held in Belize.

ICAO’s recognition of the DR also took into account the country’s performance as host of the last Global Implementation Symposium (Giss/24), for having exceeded the organization’s expectations in all aspects foreseen. The Symposium was held for the first time in the Western Hemisphere, in the resort community of Punta Cana, from April 29 to May 3 of this year.

The country’s delegation to the Belize meeting was headed by the directors general of the Dominican Civil Aviation Institute (IDAC), Héctor Porcella and of the Specialized Airport and Civil Aviation Security Corps (Cesac), Floreal Suarez; and by the Ambassador of the Permanent Mission to the ICAO Council, Julio Peña.

The meeting was also attended by the Director of the ICAO Regional Office in Mexico (NACC), Christopher Barks, and the Director of the Capacity Development and Implementation Office, Jorge Vargas.

ICAO also expressed its appreciation to the Dominican Republic for being at the forefront of permanent support, both in participating in the work of the organization and supplying experts in various aviation disciplines to provide technical assistance to other States in the region, underlining once again the status of Champion State, according to the organization’s classification.
