Due to the quality standards in the fields of environmental education, bathing waters, environmental management and safety offered during the period 2021-2022, the hotels of Meliá Hotels International: Paradisus Grand Cana, Paradisus Palma Real, Meliá Punta Cana Beach and Meliá Caribe Beach received the National Blue Flag Certificate, which allows them to expand their vision regarding social and environmental aspects.
It should be noted that this also allows Meliá to improve and expand the connection of its guests with the environment, not only at a natural level but also culturally, providing all people with a protected and inclusive space that seeks to meet the special needs of the people who visit them, while demonstrating the quality and environmental standards maintained by the group’s hotels and which are necessary to develop a sustainable and integral management of the beaches under a jury composed of 11 public institutions such as the Ministries of Environment, Tourism, Education, Public Health, ASONAHORES, National Aquarium, CIBIMA, Civil Defense, CONADIS, the National Council of Competitiveness and the Propagas Foundation, which evaluate the national segments that opt for the award.
The certification was presented by Jean Castillo, Regional Coordinator of Bandera Azul in the Dominican Republic, and Rocío Mora, in charge of Communications, and the event was attended by executives of the hotel group such as Adriane Romero, general manager of Paradisus Palma Real; Oliver Bothfeld, general manager of Meliá Punta Cana Beach; Alma de Villa, Guest Experience Manager of Paradisus Grand Cana; Rafael Megías, Guest Experience Manager of Meliá Hotels in Punta Cana, and Jesús Prato, supervisor of Sustainable Tourism of Meliá Hotels in Punta Cana. In addition, members of the Bávaro Reef Ecology Foundation, Cathelin Betances, director of the Foundation, and Samantha Mercado, coordinator and biologist, with whom they worked together.
