Minister de Collado highlighted the importance of the work, after stating that it will have an extraordinary impact on the tourism offer of the municipality of Santo Domingo East and will boost the economy of the entire area.
“Today we are here, together with President Luis Abinader Corona, fulfilling our commitment to change the image and life of the malecon of Santo Domingo East, a just demand of its inhabitants,” said the Minister of Tourism.
He indicated that “this new malecon” is added to the tourist offer that the municipality of Santo Domingo East has, such as the Cachón de la Rubia, Los Tres Ojos National Park, the National Aquarium, as well as the Columbus Lighthouse, Juan Pablo Duarte Square, Mirador del Este Park and the Nuestra Señora del Rosario Church, the first in the new world.
It should be noted that the intervention of the project, along the entire length of the coastline, includes: signage in low relief, a two-lane bicycle lane 2.50 meters wide, a concrete photo stop, a distinctive feature of the project, pedestrian paths that connect all the micro-accents, as well as the regeneration of existing green areas.
The project will cost a total of DR$645,299,087 and consists of providing a recreational area along the entire seafront of Avenida España, from the Navy installations to the Las Américas highway.
The total intervention covers a length of 4.3 kilometers of the coastline, plus 237,734 square meters of natural park, as well as the construction of ten parking areas with a capacity of 452 parking units.
In addition, it includes widening of sidewalks to 6.50 meters wide, so as to comprise the bike path along the entire length of the waterfront.
