Santo Domingo, capital of the Dominican Republic ranks #9 on the list of the “Top 10 Most Plentiful Tropical Destinations to Visit Worldwide,” according to experts published by travel portal Travel+Leisure.
It notes that there are throngs of sun lovers flocking to the all-inclusive resorts located in Punta Cana. But he indicates that to a lesser extent they realize what awaits them in Santo Domingo.
He notes that round-trip flights can be had for as little as US$286, leaving plenty of vacation budget for lodging, food and entertainment; and points out that those things cost much less in the commercial and cultural capital of the Dominican Republic.
He recommends that after lounging on the sandy beaches, take a train tour of the National Botanical Garden, or eat at the Mercado Modelo for little money and visit the famous Cathedral Basilica of Santa Maria la Menor. And be sure to take a day trip to Los Tres Ojos National Park.
The media outlet reviews that many travel spots feature adventure, from snorkeling excursions to zipline tours, in addition to the fresh, local culture and cuisine of the territory. It says that according to a recent Vacasa survey, 84 percent of travelers are changing their planes to be more budget conscious.
