The Minister of Tourism presented the results of the fourth month and the projections for the end of the year.
Tourist arrivals to the Dominican Republic reached 862,705 in April 2023, of which 681,567 were traditional tourists arriving by air and 181,138 by sea.
The information was detailed today by the Minister of Tourism, David Collado, during the traditional presentation of statistics of the sector, highlighting the preponderant performance of cruise tourism and the diversification of the issuing countries.
In giving details of the impact of tourism on the Dominican economy, the official urged the country’s politicians to be an integral part of the sector. “We must put aside political interests to continue promoting tourism,” said the official.
He commented that the ministry’s goal for the remainder of the year is to conquer other countries of origin of tourists such as Argentina and Brazil, where the tourism promotion team recently visited to expand the Dominican offer. The goal for this year is to reach 7.9 million tourists by the end of this year, in order to surpass the 7.1 in 2022.
Regarding the channeling of new visitors, the minister explained that Argentina, in spite of being submerged in a prolonged process of inflation, is in fourth place of tourist issuers. It surpassed France with 3.1% of the top five countries that send tourists to the Dominican Republic.
In the case of Brazil, although it is not in the main list of tourist visitors, he said that it is a competitive market which they are willing to encourage its inhabitants to know and travel more to Dominican soil.

In the first four months of the year, arrivals increased by 35 %.
David Collado revealed that the accumulated tourist arrivals for the first four months of the year increased by 35.7% with respect to 2022, going from 2,758,703 in January-April last year to 3,745,475 this year 2023.
He considered the accumulated statistic as a new record, due to the fact that it exceeds the period between the last six years compared, from 2018 to 2023.
Part of the reason for the destination to strengthen over time has to do with organic promotions through social networks and digital portals, channels of direct contacts that show the experience of people and their valuation of service and the places visited.
In that order, the minister assured that from the ministry some 7,000 million pesos have been saved in promotion and that this fund is in the ministry’s bank accounts, which demonstrates the integration of a committed sector.
“I thank the influencers -people who influence the decisions of others through the use of social networks- for being part of this promotion, who, in a selfless way, work in favor of tourism in the country,” said Collado before representatives of the sector and digital entrepreneurs who use social networks as a means of dissemination.
