La Quinta by Wyndham: U.S. hotel industry revives in Puerto Plata

For more than 25 years the tourist destination of Puerto Plata did not have an American lodging proposal, however the La Quinta by Wyndham hotel will be the brand that will break the schemes in the north coast.

The new international brand will provide 115 new rooms, generating 200 new direct jobs in its construction phase, which is already in the lifting of its fourth floor.

This was informed by Edward De Valle, CEO of Grupo De Valle, who also said that in this phase they will provide the building with everything necessary to make the hotel a reference in the northern zone by setting a precedent after so many years.

He detailed that the building will have a lobby bar, a restaurant, co-working and meeting spaces, a well-equipped wellness center and a swimming pool.

“It is the first American brand for a long time in the destination and our bet, besides being part of our expansion plan, is due to the work of authorities such as Mitur and AndrĂ©s Marranzini, who have given us the confidence to invest in the area, the Estrella & Tupete Group and different families,” he added.

He informed that the hotel is scheduled to open its doors in 6 or 7 months (first quarter of 2025). “It is a 3-star American style hotel, with super nice rooms. The same category that La Quinta hotels have in the rest of the world, we are bringing it to the DR so that visitors can enjoy the comfort of the brand at a more affordable price”.

For the construction of the hotel, the executive said that they are working hand in hand with Banco Popular. “We have had an excellent and impressive experience with the banks, since in other countries it is difficult to get a hotel loan or they charge 20% interest, and this makes it easy to want to invest in the DR because apart from having a whole territory to develop, you have the support of the banks if you qualify”.

Regarding the intention of the business-tourism group to invest, not only in Puerto Plata, but also in the expansion of urban hotels in each of the provinces of the country, De Valle said that one of the issues that converge with the development of more rooms is the improvement of road infrastructure.

He stated that the Government is working on improving access roads, since “as we go, private investment, the Government has to contribute, make the roads and connect, then we indirectly, through private investment, we are impacting public investment.”
