3.5 million tourists visited the Dominican Republic

7.3% more than in 2011

The number of tourists who came to Dominican Republic during the first nine months this year grew 7.3% compared with the same 2011 period.

Central Bank figures show that 3.5 million tourists visited the country thus far this year, or 239,630 more than in the same year ago period.

A total of 3.8 million resident and non-resident passengers arrived from January to September, or 6.99% higher, for an additional 253,664 people.

The U.S. once again paced the increase with 146,852 additional tourists, while Canada provided 27,011.

Venezuela sent 16,768 additional tourists; Chile 7,101; Argentina 6,818; Brazil 5,866, Peru 5,258 and Colombia 4,836.
