Leonel Fernández issued an executive Decree 119-12 Friday that bans the capture of several lobster species nationwide, aimed to preserving those varieties.
The capture, processing, possession and sale of undeclared meat of the lobster varieties pinto or rock lobster, crayfish and mama lobster is banned every year from March 1 to June 30.
The measure issues a deadline of five days for people to declare the storage of meat or the possession of live lobsters to the Dominican Fishing and Aquiculture Council (CODOPESCA), the entity that enforces the ban.
