The Ministry of Environment cancels the environmental license of the cement works at Gonzalo

BREAKING NEWS: Samaná.- The project of cement works in Gonzalo, near Los Haitises Park, which was promoted by the mining consortium has been declared non-viable and non-relevant by the expert committee of the United Nations.

The Minister of Environment and Natural Resources, Jaime David Fernández Mirabal said that the report presented by the United Nations makes clear that the allocation of the environmental license to the Consortium Dominican Mining was conducted in accordance with laws, standards and regulations in the Dominican Republic.

The Minister assures that, as administrator of the law, SEMARENA will always act in accordance with the interests of citizens and the country’s sustainable development.

Mr. Mirabal said that in response to the report of the United Nations Development Programme, the Minister of Environment decided to cancel the license issued to the Dominican Mining Consortium. He added that the lands which should have been used for the cement plant would be converted into a forestry project for the conservation, rational use and communities development.

The International Airport El Catey is very active during December

No fewer than ten companies serve the El Catey Airport throughout the month of December, which should significantly increase the number of tourists who visit the Samaná Peninsula for the end of the year.

XL Airways and Air Mediterranée make the connection with France, while many airlines including Air Canada, Skyservice, CanJet and Air Transat, offer several flights from Canada.

The flow of German tourists is provided by the airline Condor, which offers a flight every Tuesday from Frankfurt.

Blue Panorama Airlines from Milan, Italy, also will land in El Catey in December, as White Airlines, which offers a flight every Tuesday from Lisbon.

The airline TUIFLY.com will assure for its part the connection with Finland, Norway and Denmark.

Investment of U.S. $ 20 million in the second phase of Vistas del Cayo

Samaná is a fertile market for tourism projects

BREAKING NEWS: Samaná.- Top executives of the tourism project-estate Vistas del Cayo have presented the incentive program for the second phase of the residential complex. The investment for the second stage of the project is estimated at 20 million dollars, according to Cynthia Vega, real estate shareholder proposal.

Vega has reported that the completion of the second phase is scheduled for July 2010. The shareholder has acknowledged that at present the country has a large number of tourism projects, but still exists in Samaná a fertile market for the development of this modality.

It has also highlighted the competitive environment prevailing in the Dominican Republic’s real estate sector, which requires investors to be innovative in developing projects.

Furthermore, Manuel Garcia, another of the shareholders having the Cayos has said that the second phase of the project is located in an area of 70 thousand square meters, located just 10 minutes from local airport El Portillo and 30 minutes from International Airport El Catey.

Executives of Atlantic Tourist Boulevard sign a financial agreement

BREAKING NEWS: Samaná.- Executives of the Project Atlantic Tourist Boulevard signed with four multilateral agencies a long-term loan for 149 million, 500 thousand dollars to finance the Atlantic Tourist Boulevard, a road project that starts and ends in Nagua corner of Cruce Rincon de Molinillo.

The information was offered the Ministry of Public Actions, who explained that the firm is signed with the Inter American Development Bank (IDB) and European Investment Bank (EIB), also with the French Development Agency (PROPARCO) and the Andean Development Corporation Development.

The loan is for a term of fifteen years, including two year grace period for payment of the capital.
It is the first time that there are four multilateral institutions to finance a road infrastructure project managed by the private sector in the Dominican Republic.
