Dominican Republic is now a global tourism power

As it was demonstrated during Paris’ Tourism Fair

Dominican Republic emerged as a global tourism power during Paris’ Tourism Fair, where it also revealed its various opportunities to expand to reach the goal of doubling the number of visitors in the next few years.

After his participation in the show “Top Resa 2012”, Tourism minister Francisco Javier Garcia announced the construction of three new hotels, the cruise tourism boom in Puerto Plata and the start of construction of a one-of-a-kind theme park in Punta Cana.

He said the Extreme Park group start building the facility whose estimated cost is US$200.0 million, to attract adrenalin tourism, adding to the already full menu of attractions such as sun, beach, ecology and culture.

“It’s a tourism offer in itself, like the Disney amusement parks, which together with all other facilities makes the Punta Cana-Bavaro area one of the region’s most interesting destinations”, Garcia said.

The official, talking to journalists at the end of the Fair, said the new park features extreme games, including giant pools with different types of waves to surf and snowy slopes for skiing, Formula 1 simulators, rollercoasters, robotic vacuums for jumps and many other such games including some exclusive ones.

Tourism Minister also said that destination is ready to receive 400,000 cruise passengers in the next two years, thanks to a terminal of the company Carnival which starts construction within two weeks.
