The lawyer and political scientist Nelson Rafael Marmolejos Gil, is deputy of the third district in Santiago de los Caballeros for the Partido Revolucionario Moderno (PRM) and has a political trajectory, as explained in his biography on the page of the Chamber of Deputies.
He is currently a member of the Provincial Development Council of Santiago and “has participated in high level seminars for the formation of young political leaders”, among which stands out the one given by the National Democratic Institute for International Affairs, associated to the Democratic Party of the United States in Washington, according to the website of the Chamber of Deputies.
The name of the legislator is included in the file of the Falcón Operation on drug trafficking and money laundering.
According to the Public Prosecutor’s Office, the deputy obtained full financing for his campaign with money from the head of the organized crime structure that operated in Santiago and other areas of the country.
Political history
Before joining the PRM, Marmolejos Gil joined the Partido Revolucionario Moderno (PRD) around the year 2000, “motivated by the ideals of Dr. José Francisco Peña Gómez, who was the leader who served as inspiration for his incursion into politics”, according to the biographical data of the Chamber of Deputies.
His political participation led him to organize and strengthen the Dominican Revolutionary Youth throughout the municipality and province of Santiago.
His profile highlights that after his term as President of the JRD (Youth Organ of the PRD), he was nominated as candidate for Deputy of the District 03 of the province of Santiago for the Youth quota for the convention of the PRD to be held in 2009, being elected candidate in that convention with a vote of more than 10,000 votes.
After leaving the JRD Municipality of Santiago, he became one of the vice presidents of the PRD in Santiago.
Marmolejos GIl joined the PRM in 2014. He was the first Secretary General of the nascent political organization in Santiago.
He participates in the 2016 elections with the PRM.
For the 2016 elections, Marmolejos Gil ran as a candidate for alderman for constituency three of Santiago, and also PRM political delegate before the Municipal Electoral Board.
In 2020
After his term as alderman in Santiago, Marmolejos ran on the PRM ticket for the general elections of 5 July 2020.
He was elected deputy for constituency three of Santiago Province to the National Congress of the Dominican Republic for the PRM, for the period 2020-2024.
Marmolejos Gil obtained 19,173 votes for the seat and 10,978 preferential votes which placed him as the second to last most voted for constituency three.
