Cadet judo players put the DR in the lead at the Pan American Judo Championship

The cadet judokas have won 10 gold, seven silver and 10 bronze medals, in addition to eight fifth places, which has placed them in first place. Colombia is in second place with two gold, two silver and three bronze medals.

The Dominican Republic is in first place in the medal standings of the Pan American Championship after the cadet category competition, held at the Judo Pavilion of the Olympic Center.

The cadet judokas have won 10 gold, seven silver and 10 bronze medals, in addition to eight fifth places, which has placed them in first place. Colombia is in second place with two gold, two silver and three bronze medals.

Costa Rica is in third place with one gold and two silver medals, while Ecuador is in fourth place with one gold, one silver and two bronze medals, pending the definition in the junior category.

Before the start of the competitions, a brief opening ceremony was held with the parade of the different countries. During the ceremony, the president of the Dominican Judo Federation, Gilberto García, highlighted the judo talent in the continent.

Some of the winners

Dominicans Joel Vásquez, Diego García, Adrián Lapaix, Wilking Bocio and Yarelis Lucas won gold medals in their respective categories at the Junior Cadet Pan American Championship.

Vásquez won in the -50 kilogram category by beating his compatriot Israndel Agramonte, who won the silver medal. The bronze was shared between Sodeni George Metelus and Daniel Castillo, from Peru.

In -55 kilos, Diego García was crowned champion after defeating Juan Torres Arango, from Colombia, in the final. Yeison Yan Pierre, from Haiti, and Dominican Nathanael Peña Pérez shared the bronze.

Ecuador’s Alfredo Valdivieso won in -73 kilos by beating his compatriot Nahun Ochoa. Paolo Silva Manzi, from Uruguay, and Colombian Wilson Vera won the bronze medals.

In -60 kilos, Adrian Lapaix Ramirez, from the Dominican Republic, defeated Ronny Alcantara, from the same country, to win the gold medal. The bronze went to Colombian Anthony Portilla and Dominican Lorenzo Ramirez.

In the women’s category, Melissa Villada, from Colombia, took first place in the -52 kilogram category by defeating Valeria Vásquez, from Costa Rica. Samantha Josefa of the Dominican Republic and Julieta Escobar of Panama shared the bronze.
