Caribbean Queens seek to revalidate their continental title in Mexico

The Dominican women’s volleyball team will travel to Mexico on Tuesday to try to defend its title in the Continental Tournament that will be played with six other rivals from August 26 to September 1 in the city of Guadalajara.

The ‘Queens of the Caribbean’ will face the teams of the United States, Puerto Rico, Cuba, Mexico, Canada and Trinidad and Tobago.

The Dominicans reached the quarterfinals at the Tokyo Olympic Games before being defeated by the U.S. team, which eventually won its first gold medal at that level.

“We are going as always, to give it all on the court against our opponents, there is no small rival here,” said Dominican team coach Marcos Kwiek.

The coaching staff of the Dominican team did not include in the team that competed in Tokyo the attacker Gina Mambru, a player of constant presence in the national team.

The Dominican Republic won the previous Norceca Continental Tournament, held in Puerto Rico, after dominating the United States in the final match.
