The Dominican Republic is preparing to receive this month the national teams of Canada and Bahamas in the framework of the Second Qualifying Window for the Basketball World Cup, which will be played next year in Indonesia, the Philippines and Japan.
The game against Canada is scheduled for the 26th and the following day the Dominicans will play against the Bahamas. Both games will be held at the Palacio de los Deportes Virgilio Travieso Soto and will start at 6:00 pm.
The representation of the Virgin Islands will also be in the country but they will not play against the national team in this window, but against Canada and Bahamas, on the same days, Saturday 26 and Sunday 27, at 3:00 in the afternoon, at the Casa de don Virgilio Travieso Soto.
The senior national team is part of Group C of the Americas 2023 World Cup Qualifiers, along with the Virgin Islands, Canada and the Bahamas.
Rafael Uribe, president of the Dominican Basketball Federation, gave details of the event at a press conference held yesterday at the James Rodriguez Hall of the Ministry of Sports and Recreation.
Uribe was accompanied by journalist José Monegro, director of the newspaper El Día. Both of them, together with Fernando Hasbún, president of Grupo SIN, are part of the General Management of the team from Quisqueyano.
Also in attendance were the Vice Minister of Sports, Franklin de la Mota; Luis Miñoso, BanReservas Communication Advisor; Melvyn López, national team manager and “Maíta” Mercedes.
They anticipate the success of the event
Rafael Uribe valued the support of BanReservas and its administrator, Samuel Pereyra, as the main sponsor of the senior team, as well as the Customs Department, directed by Eduardo Sanz Lovatón (Yayo); the Ministry of Tourism and its head, David Collado, and the mayor of the National District, Carolina Mejía.
Twenty-six players are on the list to be called for training if available, since most of them play in leagues in other countries.
