DR men’s sextet sweeps Cuba in straight sets in Final Six

Dominican Republic defeated Cuba 3-0 today in the Men’s Final Six at the Slush Puppie Centre in Gatineau, Quebec, Canada.

The score was 3-0 (25-20, 25-23, 25-22).

Dominican Republic held the advantage in attack points (53-42), blocks were even with seven each, and Cuba had a slight advantage in serves 3-2. Errors were even with 13 apiece.

Alexis Cruz Cepin of Dominican Republic was the top scorer with 25 points: 22 attack points, 2 blocks and an ace. Teammate Adrian Jose Figueroa Lantigua contributed 19 points for the winning team.

Middle blocker Thiago Suarez Mendoza of Cuba was his team’s top scorer with 16 points.

This was the Dominican team’s first victory in the tournament.

Dominican Republic’s coach, Dante Mañon, commented: “We needed this victory very much for the team to keep moving up. We came prepared for this match in our area because we know that against Canada and the United States are teams that play a lot and have a higher level than us. We are there, we think we need to keep winning games and keep working together on the goal.”
