The Leones del Escogido and free agent Izzy Wilson reached an agreement for the outfielder to become part of the club’s native reserve, in yet another move by the management of Scarlet Operations this off-season.
Wilson, a Dominican born on the Dutch side of the island of St. Maarten, currently plays for the Rocket City Trash Pandas, AA branch of the Los Angeles Angels, where he has posted his highest career totals of home runs (17), RBIs (43) and steals (19) in the Minors.
The 6’3 left-handed hitter has a .473 slugging, .783 OPS and .232 batting average in 67 games including 35 hits.
Wilson has very brief experience in the Dominican Republic Professional Baseball League, which occurred with the Aguilas Cibaeñas in the 2018-19 season. In one game he went 3-1 with a walk and a stolen base. The Cibaeños had drafted him in the 11th round of the 2017 draft.
With Wilson there are now eight free agents signed by Escogido during the campaign break. Anderson Feliz (UTIL), Carlos Castro (C), Engel Beltré (OF), Edinson Frías (PD), Leuris Gómez (PD), Robert Corniel (PD) and Rafael Pineda (PD) complete the group.
The total of new acquisitions rises to 17, as the Leones have also received via trade Ibandel Isabel (1B), Maikel Franco (3B), José Marmolejos (1B-OF), Osvaldo Duarte (UTIL), Gabriel Guerrero (OF), Harol González (PD), Aneury Zabala (PD), Félix Paulino (PD) and José Manuel Fernández (PZ).
