Antonio Acosta says golf is a reality in the Dominican Republic

The president of the Dominican Olympic Committee (COD), Antonio Acosta, said that golf is a reality in the country due to the progress it has achieved in recent years.

Acosta indicated that thousands of Dominicans have become interested in the sport, noting that this has benefited the massification of tournaments organized by national associations, under the endorsement of the Dominican Golf Federation (Fedogolf).

“Golf in the Dominican Republic is a reality and this is shown in the large number of golfers who support each of the tournaments held by the associations in their respective districts,” said the senior Olympic leader.

Acosta’s words were made during a press conference to announce the second tournament held by the La Romana Golf Association (ASOGLAR), which will be held on June 4 and will be dedicated to golfer José Lahoz Rodríguez.

The tournament will have about 100 golfers who will play in pairs in the bestball twosome modality at The Link’s course, located in Casa de Campo, La Romana.

The day will begin at 8:30 in the morning.

Freddy Mazara, president of ASOGLAR, thanked the president of the COD for the show of support for the sport of golf at the national level.

“There is no better way to support an event than to give support as Antonio Acosta is doing,” said Mazara in the activity that was attended by different sports leaders, as well as part of the country’s press.

Mazara was accompanied by Ramón Piña, treasurer of ASOGLAR, and Héctor Luis Lahos, son of José Lahoz.

Also present at the meeting was Rafael Villalona, former president of Fedogolf and member of the Executive Committee of the Dominican Olympic Committee.
