República Dominicana gana Caribbean Amateur Junior Championships de Golf

The Dominican Republic’s junior team made history in the XXXIII version of the Caribbean Amateur Junior Golf Championships, an event that began on Sunday and ended on Tuesday at Punta Blanca Golf Course in Punta Cana.

After 33 years, the Dominican Republic won the event with 154 points, being the first time that the junior team conquered the event.

Puerto Rico finished second with 147 points, followed by Jamaica, which compiled 127 in three rounds of play.

Individual winners

Four Dominicans won their categories.

Rodrigo Huerta won the 13-11 with scores of 74+67+72, compiling 213 strokes; Omar Faruk, also Dominican, finished second with cards of 75+73+76, totaling 224.

Julio Ríos came from behind and conquered the -18 category, with his best performance this Tuesday of 67, earlier he had signed cards of 72+70.

Maria Caimari did a toe to toe from Sunday to Tuesday, winning the 13-11 category, with scores of 77+77+82.
Two Dominicans took over the -15, Camila Yoo and Stefania Mosyagina, who compiled 228 and 230, respectively.

Stephany Kim came second in the -18, with a score of 230 in three rounds, the Puerto Rican Darianys Guzman was crowned with 229 strokes.

From Turks and Caicos, Kurt Rivers dominated in the -15 with top to bottom. He finished with 206 strokes.

More than 70 players from the Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, Bahamas, Trinidad and Tobago, Cayman Islands and Jamaica participated in the event, which concluded on Tuesday.

Jonas Fernandez was the coach of the Dominican team, while the captain was Carlos Heinsen. Alfredo Ríos was the general manager.
