Legendary manager Luis Angel Montalvo was elected this Wednesday to the Dominican Sports Hall of Fame.
With the selection of Montalvo, as a promoter, the Pavilion of Fame recognizes his contributions to Dominican amateur baseball.
He will be exalted during the 58th Ceremonial on Sunday, November 17, revealed Dr. Dionisio Guzmán, president of the Permanent Committee of the Pavilion of Fame.
There is a possibility that Luis Angel has the merit of winning, as a leader, the most emblematic medal won by the Dominican Republic in the Central American and Caribbean Games.
Montalvo (native of Santo Domingo, August 10, 1933) is a veteran man who played the main roles as a baseball coach, both nationally and internationally.
For 20 years, he was the main assistant or manager of senior national teams in Central American Games, Pan American Games, Olympic Games, International Series or Cups, World Cups and World Series.
In his last 11 years as local manager, he won five district championships and one national title.
As an assistant at the international level, the most outstanding ones were the Los Angeles ’84 Olympics; the World Series of Nicaragua ’72, Cuba ’73 and ’84, Colombia ’76.
Throughout his career, among the players who played under his orders, 11 of them have been immortalized by the Hall of Fame.
Of those athletes, the one with the greatest pedigree and renown is Felipe Rojas Alou, whom he managed in the Instituto de Conductores team.
