Maintenance equipment delivered to La Zafra playground, Los Mina

The National Institute of Physical Education (Inefi) and the New York Yankees, in compliance with the agreement signed between both institutions, delivered this Saturday maintenance equipment to the recently inaugurated sports complex of the Juan Bautista Zafra Educational Center, in Los Minas, seeking to make this sports facility “become a model playground”.

The executive director of Inefi, Alberto Rodríguez Mella, and the director for Latin America of the Yankees, Joel Lithgow, provided the representatives of the baseball leagues that practice at the facility with a set of shovels, wheelbarrows, picks and rakes to maintain the playing field.

In this sense, Rodríguez Mella qualified as a very valuable contribution the delivery of the maintenance equipment by Lithgow, director of the Yankees academy in the country.

He emphasized that President Luis Abinader’s main objective is that this and other sports facilities be a model for the development of baseball in the Dominican Republic, and for this reason he requested the collaboration of the leaders, coaches, parents of the players and the entire community of Los Minas.

“Our contributions go beyond the construction of a sports facility. It is our duty and that is why we are following up on this type of work,” said Rodríguez Mella.

For his part, Joe Lithgow said he was very impressed with the conditions of the sports facility and recommended to the technicians responsible for the conditioning of the land to put the donated equipment to good use.

He said that he will make available the Yankees’ support staff to provide training to the team of workers in charge of grounds maintenance.

The facility is part of the sports area of the Juan Bautista Zafra and Pedro Mir schools, in addition to several sports leagues that use the grounds for baseball practice.
