The Minister of Sports and Recreation, Francisco Camacho, made a visit to the Paris 2024 Olympic Games Village to personally verify the conditions of the Dominican Republic athletes.
Camacho was accompanied by the president of the Dominican Olympic Committee (COD), Garibaldy Bautista; the secretary general of the Olympic organization, Luis Chanlatte, and the head of the Dominican delegation, Miguel Camacho.
“The reports I have received are that everything is fine, that our athletes are being well taken care of and that the services they are receiving from the organization are of high quality,” said the official.
He stressed that it has been in the interest of the government and President Luis Abinader that Dominican athletes receive the same attention as those from the most powerful nations in the world.
“If we want our athletes to compete on an equal footing with the best in the world, we must also provide them with the same facilities and that is what we have been doing from the Government,” he added.
He recalled that the incentives that the Government will give to the Dominican Republic’s athletes and medal teams are among the best in the world.
“I observe a good atmosphere, our boys are very optimistic, the previous work has been done, now it is time to look for the results of that work, which are the medals or a worthy performance,” he added.
Both Garibaldy Bautista and Miguel Camacho thanked the Minister of Sports for his visit to the village.
“Minister Camacho was offered the information he required about the conditions of our athletes and other support personnel, including coaches,” said the main leader of the Dominican Olympics.
Miguel Camacho stressed that the government has done its part and now it is up to the athletes to do theirs.
“Our athletes have the proper preparation; the one who is here (in Paris) was because he earned it in the qualifying competitions. Ours will face the best in the world, but they have also demonstrated that they are among the elite of world sport,” Miguel Camacho maintained.
