“I feel I have the maturity and the conditions to be champion. It is a source of pride for me that all my people are watching my performance,” Alcantara said shortly after the bout concluded.
Alcantara will seek this Friday to secure the bronze medal when he faces Rafael Lozano Serrano, from Spain, in the quarterfinals at 4:30 in the afternoon (10:50 am, DR time).
Cordovan boxer Rafael Lozano Serrano, known as ‘Balin’, advanced to the quarterfinals after defeating Australian rival Yusuf Chothia (seeded fifth) 4-1 in the men’s flyweight category in the round of 16.
At the age of 19, Lozano Serrano has won a bronze medal at the 2024 European Amateur Boxing Championships, at flyweight. In the youth category he won a bronze medal at the 2020 World Junior Championships and a gold medal at the 2021 European Junior Championships.
