The country participated in the “Latin American and Caribbean Ministerial Summit on Artificial Intelligence: ColombIA”.
The Dominican Republic and fifteen other Latin American and Caribbean countries signed a cooperation agreement to promote artificial intelligence (AI) ecosystems in the region. The agreement was signed at the closing of the first “Latin American and Caribbean Ministerial Summit for Artificial Intelligence: ColombIA”, held on Thursday and Friday in Cartagena de Indias.
In addition, the Caribbean country pledged to implement AI in the education system and to promote together with the signatory countries artificial intelligence governance frameworks for the responsible use of this technology.
Representatives of the Dominican Republic, Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, CuraƧao, Ecuador, Guatemala, Guyana, Honduras, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Suriname and Uruguay signed the agreement, which also establishes that the right to data protection, the promotion of innovation and sustainability, among other actions, will be guaranteed.
The agreement was announced by the Minister of Information Technologies and Communications of Colombia, Mauricio Lizcano, pointing out that Cuba and Venezuela also participated in the Summit, but did not sign the document due to “political issues”, since they “do not agree with the multilateral organizations” that attended the meeting, in reference to the Organization of American States (OAS).
