The Colonial City of Santo Domingo is participating in DATE 2023, presenting its comprehensive offer as a tourist and cultural destination, as well as its revitalization program where it has deployed its wide-ranging proposal for local and international tourism seeking innovative experiences.
The destination has come to DATE as a result of an inter-institutional synergy between the Santo Domingo Tourism Cluster, the Santo Domingo Hotel Association, the Colonial City Tourism Office and the Integral Tourism and Urban Development Program of the Colonial City of Santo Domingo (Pidtuccsd), executed by the Ministry of Tourism (Mitur), with financing from the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), with the interest of projecting all the attributes and potential it has.
The delegation composed of representatives of these institutions is developing its marketing strategies in a colorful stand at the Barceló Bávaro Convention Center, in Bávaro, where this tourism fair will be held from the 26th to the 28th of this month.
Rosanna Rivera, director of Tourism of the Colonial City and Amín Abel Santos, general coordinator of the Pidtuccsd (Colonial City Revitalization Program), led the meeting with the specialized press, which served to explain the numerous experiences that can be enjoyed in the oldest city of the continent and the projects of tourist and social impact, with a view to making the historic center of Santo Domingo more competitive.
During their presentation, Rivera and Abel Santos offered all the details regarding the variety of options offered by the destination based on the pillars of urban tourism such as: history, which can be appreciated in all its museums, monuments and cultural heritage; gastronomy, with numerous restaurants serving local and international cuisine.
As well as, day and night entertainment, with all its bars, concerts and the diversity of activities that take place during the day; art, with different theaters and art galleries, which reflect and exhibit part of what constitutes the Dominican culture; the proposals for accommodation with high quality hotels, in addition to the options for the celebration of events.
As part of the renovation processes that the Colonial City is undergoing, carried out by the Ministry of Tourism in conjunction with other important institutions committed to its revitalization, the restoration of its most emblematic museums and historical monuments, such as the Alcazar de Colon, the Royal Houses, the Fortress of Santo Domingo and the Cathedral, as well as the Puerta de la Misericordia, and several temples, stand out.
In compliance with the tourism promotion strategy, the delegation has a busy schedule of business meetings with national and international travel agents and tour operators, tourism service providers and specialized groups, in addition to the activities included in DATE.
In their speeches, representatives of the destination said “we take advantage of this important event to reaffirm our commitment to continue working all together, around the same vision, to continue strengthening and promoting tourism in the city of Santo Domingo, fostering growth in the flow of visitors, in addition to continuing to preserve the Colonial City and all the wealth it holds as a World Heritage Site”.
“We are very pleased to be present in this scenario that constitutes DATE, also to be fulfilling our goal in this fair, and to conduct the meetings we have held, which have been very fruitful, which allows us to ensure that our participation has been successful,” they stressed.
The following brands are present at the stand: Hotel Sheraton, Casas del XVI, Hotel Billini, Radisson Hotel, The Oxo House, Hotel Aladino, The Colonial Gate Cinema 4D and Chu Chu Colonial.
DATE is the most important fair for the promotion of the Dominican tourism product in the Dominican Republic and the Caribbean, organized annually by the Dominican Association of Hotels and Tourism (Asonahores).
