Civil Aviation Board sees an “accelerated recovery” in tourism

The president of the Civil Aviation Board (JAC), José Marte Piantini, informed this Thursday that after a year of the pandemic in March, the country has had the best numbers in air operations of entry and exit of passengers through the airports.
Piantini highlighted that according to the official statistics of the JAC, a total of six hundred and thirty thousand nine hundred and forty one (630,941) passengers were transported, with three hundred and twenty seven thousand seven hundred and seventy five (327,775) passengers on incoming flights.

He added that there were three hundred three thousand one hundred sixty-six (303,166) outgoing flights, which represent seven thousand one hundred forty-eight (7,148) air operations, the highest figure for passenger traffic in the country in the last 11 months.

He added that “air operations to and from the Dominican Republic are not only growing, but are in constant recovery, in accordance with the vision of relaunching air commercial relations as the main axis of tourism. This is a task being carried out by the current government of the President of the Republic, Luis Abinader, together with the other institutions of the sector”.

Likewise, he indicated that the figures corresponding to air transport at the close of March 2021, register that the first three months of this year showed an accelerated recovery of air operations in relation to the first quarter of 2020.

He expressed that “although, the seven thousand one hundred and forty-eight (7,148) inbound and outbound flight operations that took place during March 2021 represent a drop of less than 16% in relative terms in relation to March 2020, this is the best figure and the lowest level of decrease recorded by air operations in the country since the reopening in July 2020.”

He said that the JAC’s statistical report shows that the movement of air transport passengers in the month of March is characterized by a considerable improvement in terms of traffic where all airports in the country reflected growth compared to February 2021.

“It is important to note that, historically, March has been the month with the highest passenger traffic in the Dominican territory, mainly attributed to the Holy Week holiday, although the first week of March had already started with an average daily traffic of sixteen thousand seven hundred and eighty-seven (16,787) passengers, while, in the fourth week, it increased by 47%, equivalent to twenty-four thousand six hundred and fifty-one (24,651) passengers.
