Dominican Republic received 4,178,683 visitors in the first four months of the year, this is attributed to the arrival of tourists via air and sea, representing a 12 % growth compared to the same period of 2023.
With this figure, the arrival of more than 11 million visitors to Dominican soil is projected to be surpassed, according to David Collado, Minister of Tourism, who also stressed that Dominican tourism continues to increase steadily.
“Let it be evidenced that we are facing the best year of tourism in the history of the Dominican Republic and we are on course to exceed 11,000,000 visitors in 2024″, he assured.
Tourists during January and April
He detailed that during January and April the country received 3,039,302 tourists via air, for a growth of 10 % in relation to the same period of 2023, while 1,139,381 were cruise passengers, increasing by 15 % with respect to 2023.
Regarding the month of April, Collado informed that 704,740 tourists arrived to the national territory via air, which represents a growth of 3.4 % in relation to the same month of 2023.
However, in the same month 248,459 cruise passengers arrived, for an increase of 37% compared to April 2023.
He explained that the 3.4% growth in April is due to the fact that this year’s Easter Week fell in March and not in April, so March had an increase in visitor arrivals by 14 percent.
“The month of April would have grown by 9% in relation to 2023 if Easter had fallen, since for this holiday 195,099 arrived in the country by air,” said David Collado during the monthly presentation of tourism, in which he said that 60% entered through the airport of Punta Cana, 21% through the airport of Las Americas and 9% through the airport of Cibao.
