The Dominican Republic registers a significant control of Covid-19, which is manifested in a recovery of 80 percent in the arrival of non-resident foreign visitors between June and July, with respect to the same months of 2020, and hotel reservations for November and December, the beginning of the high season, already exceed those of the same period of 2018 and 2019 before the pandemic.
A press release from the Embassy of the Kingdom of Spain indicates that statistics compiled by the Dominican Ministry of Tourism indicate that 462,536 visitors arrived in the country last June, 20% more than in May, and in July they reached 572,000, with an increase of 24% over the previous month.
At this rate, it is projected that in 2021 tourists will total around 4.5 million, which would be equivalent to 70 % of those registered in 2019, the full year before the pandemic.
“This level of recovery exceeds all expectations until recently, has been made possible by the effective health care and vaccination policy implemented by the government of President Luis Abinader, which began in the midst of the pandemic,” he said.
