DR’s growing potential to attract congress and meeting tourism highlighted

Rafael Hernández, an expert in meetings, incentives, conventions and events (MICE), said that Punta Cana, Santo Domingo and La Romana, in the Dominican Republic, have ideal conditions as destinations for this type of tourism.

He assured that the infrastructures that these destinations have for MICE tourism are growing every day.

“We consider that the destinations here such as Punta Cana, Santo Domingo, La Romana, are important poles and are becoming more and more poles for meetings and events tourism. We see that the infrastructure for this modality is growing,” he said, according to Travel Trade Caribbean.

In his opinion, the DR “is a Caribbean destination that was already fashionable, but that is becoming fashionable for the MICE sector as well; because its connectivity, its good airport infrastructure, in addition to having a great natural, historical and culinary wealth, makes it more attractive for those attending events and meetings, who will be able to take home a unique experience”.

Regarding the need to reactivate the sector in the region, the chairman of the World Meetings Forum commented that “we are still at a stage in which our work is becoming an effort to reactivate the industry, and in which we are demonstrating to the authorities and to everyone that the events industry is safe, that it has security protocols. And here we are, leading by example, in this case from the Dominican Republic”.

Hernández participated in the World Meetings Forum, which was held at the Live Aqua Beach Resort Punta Cana, a 347-room hotel, which according to the expert has an ideal composition for events.
