The Dominican Republic registers a significant control of Covid-19, which is manifested in a recovery of 80% in the arrival of non-resident foreign visitors between June and July, with respect to the same months of 2020, and hotel reservations for November and December, the beginning of the high season, already exceed those of the same period of 2018 and 2019 before the pandemic.
In that sense, the Embassy of the Kingdom of Spain, detailing that statistics compiled by the Ministry of Tourism (Mitur), indicates that last June 462 thousand 536 visitors arrived in the country, 20% more than in May, and in July reached 572 thousand, with an increase of 24% over the previous month.
“This level of recovery exceeds all expectations until recently, has been made possible by the effective policy of health care and vaccination implemented by the government of President Luis Abinader, which began in the midst of the pandemic,” they said in a statement.
If the pace continues, it is projected that in 2021 tourists will total around 4.5 million, which would be equivalent to 70% of those registered in 2019, the full year before the pandemic.
