Ministry of Tourism holds meeting with more than 200 European travel agencies and tour operators

The Minister of Tourism, David Collado, held a meeting with more than 200 travel agencies and tour operators, airlines and media from Europe, in an event held at the Marriott Auditorium Hotel in Madrid, which also served as the opening of the agenda of activities, on the occasion of the International Tourism Fair, FITUR 2023, to be held in this city.

Collado highlighted that the Dominican Republic closed 2022 as one of the leading countries in the world in terms of tourism recovery, compared to 2019 (pre-pandemic year), and presented to the European audience the record results that the country had at the close of December 2022, the first year in history that the nation exceeded 7 million tourists and 8 million total visitors, including cruise ships.

“Europe is one of the most important markets for our country, as last year we received more than 1. 4 million tourists from the area. With activities like this, what we seek is to strengthen cooperation and partnerships with each of the travel agencies and tour operators in the region, so that we continue to grow hand in hand and that in 2023 we also reach figures never seen before,” Collado said during the event.

Also participating in the presentation was Deputy Minister of Tourism Jaqueline Mora, who addressed the challenges and opportunities for 2023, highlighting the trends and projects that are being developed in the Dominican Republic to address these challenges.

“The Dominican Republic grew by 11% over 2019 in terms of tourist arrivals by air and we grew by 19% in cruise visitor arrivals over that year, so we reached an unprecedented total of 8.5 million visitors in 2022. The world faces challenges of growth and high interest rates, but tourism has shown to be resilient and tourists will seek destinations where they get more value for their money, as is the Dominican Republic,” said Mora.

For his part, Collado explained the importance of these records beyond the numbers. The Minister indicated that every time the country improves its performance in tourism, it translates into more jobs and opportunities for Dominican Republic families.

“Thank you because with every flight or every room you sell in the Dominican Republic you are helping a family; that is why it is so important for us to work hand in hand with all of you; the large, medium and small agencies, who are our strategic partners, allow us to place our country among the favorite destinations of Europeans and the world,” said the Minister.

This activity was supported by local and international investors and banks. The entire event was full of the Dominican Republic brand, and the beauties of the country were shown in a masterful way, confirming once again that the country definitely has it all.
