Mitur focuses on strengthening security in tourist centers

The director general of the National Police, Ramón Antonio Guzmán Peralta, held a strategic meeting with the Minister of Tourism, David Collado, with the objective of continuing to strengthen security levels in the tourist poles.

During the meeting, which was also attended by General Minouru Matsunaga, central director of the Tourism Police (Politur), the strategies implemented to increase security levels in the main tourist areas of the country were reviewed.

In addition, the impact of the current measures was reviewed and new initiatives were discussed to guarantee the tranquility and security of visitors.

The meeting was held in the hall of the Fundación Marca País, where, among other things, it was decided to increase the number of agents in the areas previously identified as priorities.

It was also agreed to increase the exchange of information between the different agencies responsible for citizen security, including the Public Prosecutor’s Office.

Collado, Guzmán Peralta and Matsunaga reaffirmed their commitment to work together to maintain the Dominican Republic as a safe and reliable tourist destination.

They agreed on the importance of cooperation between institutions to achieve these objectives, stressing that security is a fundamental priority for the development and sustainability of the tourism sector.

“The reinforcement of security in the tourist poles is a responsibility and a decision of the Tourism Cabinet headed by the President of the Republic (Luis Abinader); while in other countries of the region their security is deteriorated and affected, in the Dominican Republic we are reinforcing and we have the lowest levels of incidence and crime in the entire region and the tourist poles,” said the minister.

Meanwhile, Guzmán Peralta emphasized that “on the instructions of the President of the Republic, Luis Abinader, we are meeting to review everything that has to do with citizen security in the tourist centers at the national level, in order to continue strengthening the security standards that have been exhibited so far”.
