Nisibon AirPark to invest more than US$130 million in DR

The project includes KAYNOA ECOACTIVE WORLD, as part of its main attractions, with whom they will strengthen the offer in ecotourism, adventure tourism, as well as the development and promotion of the real estate and hotel sector in the province of La Altagracia.

After receiving certification from the Dominican Civil Aviation Institute (IDAC), the Nisibon AirPark project, the first domestic airfield in the DR and the Caribbean, will begin operations before the end of 2023. The first stage contemplates the construction of the domestic terminal within a 23 million square meter property, with an investment that will exceed US$9 million, initially generating more than 190 jobs, with a target of 260 employees when it starts operating at full capacity in the next five years, while preserving more than 50 existing jobs resulting from the traditional agricultural and livestock activity in the area. The second stage will include a real estate project, an adventure park with 13 attractions, an aviators’ club, and other activities related to the aeronautical sector, with a total project investment of more than US$125 million.

The certificate of operation was handed over by the acting general director of the IDAC, Héctor Porcella, to the president of Nisibon AirPark, Oscar Villanueva Sued, who was accompanied by businessmen Fernando Villanueva and Eduardo Read, president and member of the board of Grupo Viamar, among others. Also present were the director of the Airport Department, Víctor Pichardo, and the general commander of the Dominican Republic Air Force, Major General Carlos R. Febrillet.

The aeronautical components of the complex, together with the terminal and its hangars, will be complemented with a real estate development under the concept of villas with hangars or hangar-homes, where the owners will be able to arrive and store their aircrafts.

Oscar Villanueva, president of the project, said that there is no other aeronautical, tourism and real estate offer in the Caribbean region like the one Nisibon AirPark will provide. We are very pleased to receive this certification to continue raising the socio-economic development of the country, through new sources of formal employment, prioritizing the purchase of materials and supplies from local commerce, preserving the existing jobs resulting from the agricultural activity in the area”.

Porcella explained that the certification of the new airfield complied with all the requirements established in the Civil Aviation Law of the Dominican Republic No. 491-06, in a process that began in 2013. He stated that the aeronautical complex corresponds to the great moment that civil aviation is experiencing in the country as a result of the extraordinary boom in the national tourism industry.

The private capital project, belonging to Grupo Viamar is located in the community of Las Lagunas de Nisibón, in Higüey, less than 50 kilometers from Punta Cana and is destined to become one of the main complementary attractions of the most famous tourist destination in the Caribbean region.
