The Vice Minister of Tourism, Carlos Peguero, highlighted the importance of the Less Plastic Guide, developed by the Caribe Circular project, while participating in the 8th edition of the Sustainable & Social Tourism Summit, in Mexico.
He said that the implementation of the Less Plastic Guide and sustainable strategies in destinations such as Huatulco and Pedernales are inspiring examples of how it is possible to move towards a more sustainable and conscious future.
He detailed the sustainability strategy for Pedernales, highlighting the importance of attracting environmentally committed investors.
He also spoke of the role of institutions such as the Fideicomiso Pro-Pedernales in creating guidelines for companies in the sector, tourists and local inhabitants, promoting awareness and culture regarding plastics and the circular economy.
The official explained the Ministry of Tourism’s vision to confront the threat of plastic to the sustainability of tourism, highlighting the importance of attracting investors committed to the environment.
Peguero indicated that the process supported by Caribe Circular pursues the development of policies that prohibit or minimize the use of plastics in Pedernales, a key destination for the economy of the Deep South, according to Nuevo Diario.
