The president of the Civil Aviation Board (JAC), José Marte Piantini, reported that air connectivity is a fundamental axis for the economic development of the country, referring to the total number of operations to and from the Dominican territory, from August 2020 to June 2024.
“A total of 438,836 air operations in arrivals and departures were carried out through international airport terminals, with an average frequency of 1,275 flights a week to different destinations, under the modality of charter and regular flights,” he pointed out.
He added that the 438,836 air operations, as a result of the movement of passengers and merchandise, resulted in direct and indirect revenues estimated at 49,807 million dollars for the Dominican economy.
He stressed that air transportation at the end of this first period of government of the President of the Republic, Luis Abinader, leaves a positive balance as a result of the actions taken by the members of the plenary, during these four years, “the current administration has been of great challenges and important achievements for the sector, whose horizon is set to continue developing connectivity and air transport, which is evidenced by the authorization of 46,002 air operations under the non-scheduled or charter mode and 18,940 flights approved under the Special Permits mode”.
This was announced in his fourth management report as head of the agency responsible for establishing the highest commercial aviation policy in the country. “Air connectivity is crucial for the integral and sustainable development of the DR,” said the president of the JAC, reporting that the national territory currently has 281 new connections, resulting in the establishment of new routes to multiple destinations around the world.
Marte Piantini, gave a detailed account of the achievements of the agency during these four years, in which he detailed the main actions of his administration, which have strengthened civil aviation in the Dominican territory.
He emphasized that since August 2020, Dominicans have access to more global destinations. However, he explained the need to continue expanding the country’s air connectivity network so that national air operators can reach other markets.
“This expansion reflects the efforts of President Abinader, to continue strengthening the national airline industry and facilitating trade and investment, he indicated.
