Senate approves air services agreement between Dominican Republic and Ecuador

The Plenary of the Senate of the Republic approved in sole reading the air services agreement between the Government of the Dominican Republic and the Government of the Republic of Ecuador, signed on March 10, 2022.

The project, presented by the Executive Branch, aims to facilitate the expansion of international air services opportunities, to guarantee the highest degree of operational and airport safety.

The agreement allows the airlines, designated by the parties, to create new flight routes, in addition to contributing to the reduction of air ticket prices by promoting equitable opportunities for the airlines to carry out their activities, allowing them to compete in accordance with the rules and regulations, favoring the development of international air transportation.

In second reading, the Bill declaring San Pedro de Macorís as an Ecotourism Province, an initiative proposed by Senator Franklin Peña, was approved. The purpose of this law is to promote ecological and cultural tourism, contributing to the conservation and sustainable use of natural resources, for the benefit of the economic and social development of the inhabitants of San Pedro de Macorís.

Likewise, they approved in first reading the Project of modification of the General Law of Integral Management and Processing of Solid Waste, initiative presented by senators Bautista Rojas Gómez, Alexis Victoria, Ginnette Bournigal de Jiménez, Ramón Pimentel, Franklin Peña, Melania Salvador, Lenin Valdez López and Virgilio Cedano.

The Plenary honored with a minute of silence the memory of the student children who died in an accident in Hato Mayor, as well as José Joaquín Bidó Medina, politician and former rector of the UASD; Elías Abreu, architect resident of La Vega province; Fernando Navarro, broadcaster from Azua province stationed in New York, and the heroes of May 30.

In his turn, Senator Bautista Rojas Gómez submitted a resolution requesting INFOTEP to extend to all regions of the country the technical career of heavy vehicle operators, in order to create a new generation of technicians specialized in this type of transport and heavy machinery.

Senator Aris Yván Lorenzo presented a Resolution requesting INTRANT to install and renew road signs on the highways of the country, in order to reduce deaths and injuries due to traffic accidents, especially in the case of heavy load transportation.

Senator Ivan Silva presented a Resolution requesting the Ministry of Tourism to issue the tourist guide card to those who have completed the INFOTEP tourist guide course, while calling on the Ministry of Tourism to investigate the situation why they have not been issued the card that accredits them.

Ramón Pimentel congratulated the citizens of the municipality of San Fernando de Montecristi, who are currently celebrating their patron saint festivities. He also thanked President Luis Abinader for having inaugurated several works in Montecristi during the month of May.

Ginette Bournigal de Jiménez highlighted the memory of Ramón Ortiz Lizardo, the recently deceased former mayor of Puerto Plata. She also defended the work of the Minister of Agriculture for the rigorous control of swine fever. He also requested the modification of the Solid Waste Law to sanction those who throw solid waste.

Antonio Marte thanked President Luis Abinader for the repair and asphalting of the Rubio, Puerta del Mulo, Alto de Cana and Maguana roads. On another subject, he denounced that unknown persons are plundering the forests of Villa los Almácigos, an action that the Ministry of the Environment must stop.

Dionis Sanchez denounced that some soldiers are taking products from the people who visit the market which is held on Mondays and Fridays in the border zone of Pedernales province.

Cristóbal Castillo regretted the death of students in a traffic accident in Hato Mayor. He also presented a bill which modifies the Code for the System of the Fundamental Rights of Children and Adolescents, in order to include the legal figure of school bullying.
