The National Institute of Physical Education (Inefi) announced this Tuesday that in the next few days the 2024 summer camps will begin, which will be held in various disciplines, from August 1 to 16, in several schools and sports centers in the country.
Alberto Rodríguez, executive director of the institution, pointed out that the camps will involve students in basketball, baseball, soccer, volleyball and adapted sports.
He indicated that, in coordination with the Dominican Basketball Federation, the Dominican College of Basketball Coaches and the associations of the National District and Santiago, the Basketball Initiation Camp for children between 6 and 9 years old will be held from August 1 to 6 at the Eugenio María de Hostos Park, and from August 8 to 16 at the Arena del Cibao Park. In both meetings 190 children will be impacted.
Meanwhile, with the support of the Dominican Football Federation, Inefi will hold from August 2 to 23, the National Indoor School Football Tournament for Boys and Girls, with a regional and zonal eliminatory phase (from 2 to 15) in the 32 provinces of the country, and its final stage (17 to 23) in Santo Domingo.
Thirty-two teams made up of 15 members in both genders will participate in this competition, for a total of 9,560 direct participants.
From August 5 to 10, under the coordination of the Cibao FC Foundation, the Soccer Initiation Camp for 9-14 year-old children will also be held at the field of the Pontificia Madre y Maestra de Santiago, where 200 children from schools and low-income sectors of that northern city will be impacted on a daily basis.
For its part, the Punta Cana Group will contribute with the phase in the Eastern region, from August 5 to 9, at the Veron Community Center, where 150 children from schools and low-income sectors of these communities will benefit.
With the participation of 200 students from special schools for children with different physical disabilities, and in coordination with the Inefi Disability Department and Special Olympics, an adapted sports camp will be held on August 2 at the General Antonio Duvergé Club (GAD).
The National District Volleyball Association and the Domingo Savio Home School will coordinate, from August 7 to 10, the Mini Volleyball Festival for children from 10 to 12 years old, in which 36 teams from the National District, made up of 15 members each, will see action.
The Baseball Festival for 13-15 year olds will be held from the 12th to the 15th, at the Santo Cura de Ars Educational Center (Cescar) with the coordination of the Dominican Baseball Federation and in which 36 teams from leagues of the National District, Santo Domingo East and Haina will compete with a total of 540 participants.
In coordination of all the operating departments of the decentralized agency, 160 children of Inefi employees will have, from the 12th to the 16th, their summer camp at the General Antonio Duverge (GAD) Club.
