Punta Rucia-Puerto Plata highway will boost tourism

Rafael Danilo Guzmán, president of the Consorcio Turístico Empresarial Cibao Atlántico, was pleased with the announcement made by the Minister of Public Works and Communications (MOPyC), that the long awaited highway linking Puerto Plata with Punta Rucia will be built and delivered in the coming months, which will boost tourism in the area.

According to Guzmán, the work, which has been demanded for more than 40 years, has finally found an echo in the high levels of the government, and he thanked Minister Deligne Ascensión for his disposition so that the request of all the business and tourist sectors has found a voice which is sorry for the zone.

In this sense, he said, that what has been decided by the MOPC is a news that fills with enthusiasm, and above all, sends to the Dominican society the message that in the mind of President Luis Abinader and the main government officials, is the interest to develop the whole area of the Cibao Atlántico.

Après plus de 40 ans de construction

The tourism businessman indicated that after more than 40 years of construction, the Punta Rucia-Puerto Plata highway will be built and delivered to the community.

It is recalled that in this same media, Minister Deligne Ascención explained that the road starts in Villa Elisa, on the Duarte highway, Montecristi to the beach La Ensenada de Puerto Plata comprises a stretch of 23 kilometers, of which 14 are built in asphalt. The remaining slopes will be graded and then the first layer of asphalt will be applied.

Punta Rucia a Puerto PlataAscención said that the road will be fundamental because it will promote the northern part of Puerto Plata, the tourism of Cayo Arena, Punta Rucia, La Ensenada, and also serves as a communication route with Santiago, the Northwest Line, Valverde, and Montecristi.

He added that stabilization works are currently being carried out, consisting first of the construction of some sidewalks inside the slope, due to the erosion and conditions of the terrain, according to El Hoy.

He said that in the area with scarce rains, but when they occur there could be landslides that will affect the road, this allows to preserve that part of the mountain, the road and especially the people who travel there.
